"What Guests are saying about Fairmont Empress Hotel
Victoria "

Our daughter recommended the Empress to us and we booked through BC Ferries in
Vancouver. Getting to Victoria is an enjoyable experience in itself and we were
in the right mood to upgrade to a Gold Pass stay when we arrived. The staff were
excellent as was the room overlooking the harbour. The highlight of the stay was
the special lounge set aside for Gold guests - the sittings were delightful, the
food and service exceptional and the whole experience one that we look forward
to having again. The Empress has many sections to explore and savour. The hotel
is pure quality - my only regret is that Fairmont hotels do not exist in
Australia because I could quickly become a devotee.

I recently stayed at the Empress while on a business trip. From the moment I
arrived I received superb service at the check in line. Check in was fast and
friendly. Everyone of the hotel staff in the lobby smiled and said 'hello!' to
me. I was asked three times as I made my way to the elevators if I needed
assistance. I was delighted by my room - fresh, airy with sun streaming in. It
was well appointed and even had a small fridge. The bed was sumptuous with fresh
bedding. Although the bathroom was spotless, it was a bit dark in the shower.
When I left in the morning, my bill was ready, under my door and the express
check out was awesome! Let me go on my way in seconds! I felt proud to stay at
the gorgeous Empress!

While we had an attractive group rate and this hotel has terrific curb appeal we
were very disappointed with our stay.
We were upgraded to a bay view room number 696, a very long walk from the lobby
elevator bank. There was black mold evident above the shower wall and behind the
sink. The chrome towel bar was no longer chromed, the shower rod was rusty.
There was a very large stain in the carpet at the entrance door. Furniture
showed extreme wear, especially two chairs.
We ate breakfast in the Tea Room on two of our three mornings at the hotel. A
bowl of oatmeal, a bowl of quinua porridge and two cups of coffee came to $48.00
CDN the first morning. The second morning we ordered Eggs Benedict which were
served with yolks very hard and lukewarm hash browns. The check total was about
the same as the cereal choices the previous day. Hostess was very unorganized
and seemingly panicked both mornings and a male who appeared to be a member of
management was trying hard to clear tables for waiting guests.
The meeting facilities were newer and very nice and the food served at our
luncheon and our breakfast was much better than that served in the dining room.
If we return to Victoria or any other city with a Fairmont Hotel we will choose
a competitor.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay fully, staff & service are excellent, all very
personable for this large establishment. Lovely decorated room (312-no view),
clean, comfortable. Old world charm with huge welcoming lobby spaces, free wi-fi
& computers available, very reminiscent of historical grandure accommodation
without being stuffy. They graciously store your luggage to accommodate your
ferry departure at no charge. Location is perfect, easy walk from ferries.
Highly recommend! |
