It was a gorgeous old Victorian mansion with charm, but there was a musky smell.
The cold water facet in the bathroom sink did not turn on, and the coffee cups
in my room were dirty. But the complimentary breakfast in the main building was
delicious, and it was nice to see other people as I didn't see anyone in the
house which made it feel a little creepy.

We stayed here during the Christmas holiday 2011. Our room was in the Mansion,
but I recommend both the Middle House and Judges House also.
The hotel is directly across from the Inner harbour Ferry terminal. Less than 5
min drive to cruise ship port, 5 min walk to many inner harbour tourist
attractions.
It's a little worn, needs some general maintenance, but the charm of the mansion
and Derek (inn keeper) makes up for any little thing that may be lacking. We had
a canopy KING size bed and it was the best bed I have slept on in a hotel. We
had a BIG spider in our bathroom, Derek removed the creature, never batted an
eye about the request. Derek was also very informative about the area.
My one complaint was the restaurant service. Hire better wait staff. After the
first breakfast (included in our stay price) we simply refused to eat there
again. Derek did address the problem quickly but the bad impression was made and
damage done.
I did find that the incidental hold on my credit card was a bit much. $300 for
the 3 days we where there, was equal to 90% of what we paid for the room. It was
release at the end of our stay, but took 72 hours to be credited back to my
credit card.
Over all I LOVED THE HOTEL AND WILL STAY AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. Innkeeper
DEREK was amazing. I will recommend this hotel.

We were not sure where to stay as this was our first trip to Victoria and we
were lucky enough to stumble across the Gatsby Mansion! From our initial
greeting from our host to the room, we were very pleased with our choice!
Despite road work/construction outside, our room was quiet (it overlooked the
harbor), was nicely decorated and had an incredibly comfy four poster bed! You
need to be able to maneuver stairs as the Inn lacks an elevator, but the
history, charm and staff more than make up for an inconvenience!
As for the breakfast, well, we loved the brief walk next door and the food was
ample, tasty and our view only enhanced our experience! Thanks Gatsby!

Choose a room near the front to ensure a view of the harbor! Believe it or
not, the rooms are as quiet as they are delightful!
