Delta Victoria Pointe Resort & Spa Hotel is in wonderful
location. Easy walk to shopping areas. Close to museum
and Parliament Buildings. Spectacular harbor front with
all that that entails

Updating a hotel is certainly laudable, but when the
renovation is poorly planned and coupled with lack of
attention to detail, it loses any bonus points.
We arrived at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort Victoria
slightly early for check in (late check in - guaranteed
at 4pm) and were greeted by great desk staff whom all
seemed very pleasant, and were on-point with guest
service. Parking at $16 a day when you own your own lot
is really a poor business choice, but our host waived
the parking as the room was yet to be ready.
After a cocktail in the lounge (see review), we headed
up to the room. We were checked into a newly updated
room, and told there would be some construction noise.
Though I frown upon not knowing in advance (or being
offered a discounted rate), the noise wasn't really
noticed with the exception of a light hammer-tap here
and there. Nothing bad, though I imagine had it been a
weekday there would have been potentially more noise.

Delta Victoria Pointe Resort Rooms are being updated in
a boutique hotel style, but the Delta has yet to master
the service and standards that would make the remodel
work. Attention to detail was obviously overlooked - our
fixtures were dusty (phone, lamp, radio), and the
renovated style bore unfortunate similarity to a
Swedish-home-store show room. Lacking in some details -
the faucet in the bathroom is set just slightly too far
back to comfortably get hands under to wash, requiring a
sideways turn to fit into the scant inch of clearance
between stream and sink-back. The door mechanism was not
adjusted properly, so the room door would close but not
latch under it's own power. Fixtures along the corridor
are obviously dusty along the brass. In room dining
boats the typically inflated cost for the menu, plus a
$4 'delivery charge' (we went on to learn that this is
NOT paid to the server as a gratuity, and is simply a
charge for the hotel...) Sloppy form and likely
detrimental to the gratuities given to the servers.
Inflation of in-room dining is one thing, standard and
understandable for convenience. Charging a fee on TOP of
$20 bacon and eggs is shameful (and pretty easily
seen-through as a money-grab).
Advice to Delta - you have a prime location and
seemingly well chosen desk staff. Focus less on the
trite facade and revisit the fundamentals. Without a
strong service and standards base, a fancy room remodel
smacks of a quick-fix without a willingness to invest in
the basics. Won't likely return.

We booked two nights at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort
Victoria for March well in advance so got a good rate.
They gave us a two queens room with a cot. The room was
spacious and clean though a bit dated with the wear and
tear.
The location was very good, we walk to Johnson street,
china town, inner harbour etc.
We did not have any problem with the noise the first day
but on the day that we were checking out, we wanted to
have a long lie as we have a flight to catch that
evening but we were waken up by the noise from the
renovation work at 8am. It was very loud so though we
tried it was not possible to go back to sleep again.
They did give us a late check up so we managed to have a
rest after breakfast before checking out.
Probably it is better to wait till after renovation to
stay here. Unless you plan to wake up early and be out
most day time hours. The staff who were responsible for
reservations and booking were very nice and helpful so
we were warned about the possible noise from 8am to 5pm
but we did not expect it to be that loud, we are usually
sound sleepers. |
