Guest Review of the Bedford Regency Hotel Victoria BC

My husband and I planned a weekend getaway to Victoria for my 25th birthday. We
arrived on Friday, and left Sunday afternoon.
As we arrived, and the doors of the elevator opened on to our floor we were
greeted by an overwhelming smell of urine! I can't understand how an entire
floor can smell like pee...but it did! We found our room, and luckily the room
itself did not smell. It was clean and welcoming.
Our room had a jacuzzi tub, queen bed, wood-burning fire place, tv etc. We liked
it.
We were beginning to unpack, and start to relax...when we heard a troubling
sound. Now, I realize it is an old building, and that certain things are to be
expected, but we could hear rodents scurrying in the ceiling! (Initially it
really scared us, because we had been talking about ghosts and wondering if the
hotel is haunted! haha). We didn't see any rodents in our room, and the room had
no evidence of rodents (we didn't see any feces) but we were kept awake at times
by the squeekes and frantic scurrying above us. There is something very
unnerving about those noises...
The bed itself was extremely uncomfortable. My husband and I both woke up with
back pain each morning.
The location is convenient. It was nice to not use the car for the entire
weekend. Everywhere we wanted to go, we were able to walk to. The staff were ok.
Not very personable, but not rude either. They just process your request and
you're on your way. They didn't ask us if we enjoyed our stay or anything...I
thought that was odd.
Unfortunately my first impression of the hotel is of a urine smell throughout
the floor. That's how I'll remember the hotel, so we'll definitely be staying
elsewhere on our next stay in Victoria.

Great friendly service at the front desk. I was upgraded upon request, this is
the second time they've done this for me. Great location, right in the heart of
downtown, easy to walk to most of the sights. the night of my return the ferry
was to be cancelled and they had no issue reserving me a room at the last
minute, matching my rate from the night before. The rooms are quaint but could
use mew carpeting and tvs.

We booked a last minute stay at this hotel and picked mainly due to price and
location. The location can't be beat. It's close to great restaurants (including
the fabulous Rebar), shops and close to all of the tourist locations. It also
has a Cafe Artigiano in the lobby (fantastic coffee). However, I would rate this
a 3 star at best. We were given a room that adjoined another (45A) and could
very clearly hear all conversations that were happening in the next room. This
was particularly inconvenient when we were also awoken the next morning by their
6:45am wake up call. The carpet had a clearly outlined iron burn (not a big deal
but indicative of the quality of the hotel). The sink was in the main part of
the room with a separate room for a stand-up stall shower and toilet. The
shampoo/soap dispenser in the shower had leaked so there was a big pool of dried
shampoo all over the bottom of the stall. The bed was old and noisy with every
turn but actually rather comfortable. If you're looking for a relatively clean,
budget hotel in a great location, I would consider this hotel. If you're looking
to spend any time in your room or plan on treating yourself, I would look
elsewhere.

An older hotel located across the street from Victoria's downtown shopping
centre and around the corner for its Bastion Square, a short walk to the
Empress, Parliament Buildings and Provincial Museum and surrounded by
restaurants. Not your basic North American hotel; more like the small to medium
establishments one finds in England - a commercial building converted into a
hotel. The room I had was at the back, top floor, long rectangle room with
sitting area in front of a wood burning fireplace, complemented by a fantastic
view overlooking the Inner Harbour seen through two large windows, a queen sized
bed, a bar sized refrigerator, a stand alone basin outside of the bathroom and
an amply sized jacuzzi bathtub. Complementary Globe and Mail newspaper. Rooms up
front had unwelcome street noise, especially when the nearby pubs and taverns
closed. Helpful staff; stored luggage between checking out and departure. Bar,
your basic faux English pub; prompt service and a good selection of beers on
tap.
Room Tip: rooms at back preferable to those at front - rain fall can be heard in
top floor rooms - avoid rooms beside elevator if you are a light sleeper; its
operation could be sleep disturbing
