The room itself was fine, overall. It was awesome to have a small balcony (in a partial harbour-view room) to let in fresh air.
Attention to smaller details could better align this place with all the glowing ratings on this site.
1. Lumpy pillows, lots of them mind you, but all were very stiff and uncomfortable.
2. TV remote was very finicky, at times would not work at all from any angle or distance...Most of tbe time only worked from close range to the TV.
3. Exorbitant prices in the Courtyard cafe: 3 bottled drinks (including water) cost $12...If only I'd known sooner that there's a 7-11 within walking distance!
4. Slow service in the Pacific restaurant. All we ordered was dessert; took forever to arrive at our table and the waitress was very stiff and formal, seemed annoyed that we weren't ordering full dinners.
5. Dessert Portions small as well (large plate though!). The chocolate 'cupcake' was way overpriced (approx. $10 for each tiny dessert). And when they offered two choices in water, either plain or sparkling, I didn't realize we'd be charged a fortune for going with the sparkling (it was San Pellegrino but we didn't find that out til the bill came).
6. Unsafe hot tub: This whirlpool is located in the health club on the downstairs level of the hotel. It was so full of bubbles (looked like someone had poured shampoo in!) that you couldn't see or feel the bottom when you got in. Twice I tripped not realizing that were more steps going into the bottom of this pool. There should be a warning sign to watch one's step on these well hidden stairs.
7. The hot tub too is very small and old looking, for a hotel that prides itself on quality offerings. When you first enter the pool area you are deceived into thinking there are two hot tubs, as there are two smaller pools in front of the main pool. What a disappointment when I stepped into the small pool closest to the main entrance and found it to be no warmer than the regular pool water. That pool would have made a nice, spacious hot tub, not like the cramped bubble pool I ended up in with the scary hidden steps.
This hotel is very conveniently located and a room with a balcony was a real treat. However, the above annoyances will make me think twice in the future, before choosing this place over other accommodations in the area.

In that we often take the ferry to visit friends and family on the other side of Juan de Fuca, we love staying at this lovely hotel, its rooms bright, clean and well appointed, and the food in the restaurant equally well done and presented. But better yet is that they have very reasonable overnight parking, meaning that we can be walk-on's on the ferry, returning the same or next day with ease.

I was part of a business group that held a conference at this hotel. First, I would like to say that the service from all of the staff was excellent...from the check-in process, the bell captains, room cleanliness, quality of the food served at our conference, etc. I thought the service rated a 4.5 - 5.0 stars! Also, the location is ideal if you are on the VIctoria Clipper or Blackball Ferry Service as it is literally a 2 minute walk from the terminals to the hotel.

With that said, I thought the hotel room (a junior suite) was just so-so. The bathroom was very small considering it was a one-bedroom suite (not adequate if there are 2 people). The counter space was incredibly limited with no shelves to place toiletries, etc. I had to constantly move things around to make room for stuff. The bed was comfortable and the pillows adequate but the room really needed to be updated as the furniture looked dated and worn. I paid $14.50 for a martini in the bar. Although I requested a premium vodka, I thought that was a bit outrageous for a cocktail. I didn't even pay that much in Las Vegas at one of the 5 star hotels.

Our room overlooked the swimming pools of both the Days Inn and Best Western next door. Make sure to request a harbor-view room as I'm sure that view is much more interesting.

I've stayed at this hotel three times during the Victoria marathon. The start and finish are just a block away and the hotel is very nice. The rooms are quite large, parking was easy, very nice views, and even the restaurant was quite good (we don't usually think much of any hotel's restaurants).
