Review of the Strathcona Hotel Victoria

Well, tried to get a drink here about 5pm local time but
we were rushed up and down so much that we decided not
to bother.
We stayed in the hotel last year which was clean and
fine and quirky and interesting but the staff so utterly
lacking in charm checking in and completely unhelpful
about the paid parking arrangements that we have given
up and prefer to stay not very far away.
I would venture to suggest that 'the customer service
manager' sends a spy, an aged aunt or aged P, not overly
demanding, just wanting nice people to answer the stupid
questions about eg parking, what time is breakfast
served from.
Well, hope you survive, guys, times are getting tougher.
Try to be nice to the customer.

We stayed in the Strathcona Hotel in December. We chose
it because it was a good price and centrally located.
I have mixed feelings. The room was clean, came with a
decent breakfast in the morning and a great location.
The problem was we didn't know it was the place to party
in Victoria. Sleep between midnight and 2 AM was
impossible. Even before that the place to smoke is in
the doorway entrance to the hotel.

This is a great location but the rooms are small and the
regular fridge, coffee maker and microwave are absent.
On the other hand the various pubs and the convenience
of being able to get around downtown make it a good
place to use as a base. The do need to control the heat
more as we found our room to be too hot despite having
the thermostat set at 15 degrees C. The bass beat from
the 9One9 pub was easy to hear in our third floor room
as well. Considering the location, the room rate was
excellent and the breakfast, while quite basic was
satisfactory. All in all, this is a good place to stay
if you can get a good room rate.

Not the most exciting room, very quaint & small, but
nice. View out window was of a wall 15' away. Very
centrally located within walking distance of all the
attractions downtown. Several fun bars in this hotel,
all worth checking out. Cheapest place in town without
reservation! I'd stay again.
