Guest Reviews of the Victoria Travelodge Hotel

We stayed two nights at the Victoria Travelodge. This was our first time, but won't be our last. We are frequent visitors to Victoria and knew the access was good to many parts of the city.
Initially, we had planned to bring our dog. He would have and will love the hotel's location across from a park which overlooks the Gorge and footbridge across.
We were assigned rooms on this side of the property - ask for this. The other side has no view.
The building itself is less than impressive when you get past the front. Past reno's are close to sketchy. Watch your head on the stairwell. Also, it seemed that many other guests might be longer term. A number were smokers who used the balconies.
The room was large, well appointed and had a small kitchen with range, refer, sink and table / chairs. Interestingly, there were no utensils or microwave. Bring your own?
The appliances, bath fixtures and beds were new. The furniture, which was in acceptable shape, was early '80's oak. The carpet appeared new. Of special mention were the bed coverings and sheets. Very nice.
There was a 42" LCD, but no Fox News on Shaw Cable.
The air conditioner was somewhat load. It would run continuously unlike some that temperature cycle.
We did not try the restaurant. The pool was adequate and indoors. There is a sauna and small exercise equipment room.
The front desk was friendly and helpful.

We go to Victoria nearly every year, and had been staying with a "bargain" local chain. Recently, however, the place had gone downhill, so we looked for something newer and more convenient. The Travelodge (on Gorge Road) met all our needs. It is clean, comfortable, well-run (the staff were very helpful), and less than a 10 minute drive from downtown. We asked for a quiet room, and the one we got was as quieter than our neighborhood at home--no traffic noise. There is also a breakfast room attached to the motel--a great timesaver. We were very satisfied, and we'll be back.

Rooms are clean and well appointed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff quickly gave us a change in room, when we felt we had an issue with heating. The hotel is not new and the outside hallways and stairs tend to show this, but not a big deal, especially if you are aware before you get there. eg if you are on the third floor, you have to walk up outside. The indoor pool is quite adequate. Depending where your room is, it can be a long walk outside to get to it, though. But once again, no big deal. Ample supply of towels at the pool, which I really appreciated, having small children with me. We didn't have time to access the Galloping Goose Trail, but I think that is a nice feature to have located nearby.

I don't remember the last time I stayed at a Travelodge (maybe never?) but thought I'd give it a shot because I was booking three/four rooms and needed to be budget conscious. I can't say I expected much, driving up and seeing that the front lobby was under construction. However, this place proved to me how a simple place could far exceed my expectations! Upon arrival, the front desk receptionist was very friendly and knew our booking exactly as soon as I mentioned we had multiple rooms. She had it all ready to go and was able to accommodate rooms next to each other (I had e-mailed the general manager a few days prior to arrival requesting rooms next to each other). It would have been nice if we had adjoining rooms, but they were not able to accommodate it based on the rooms that were occupied that week. However, having rooms next to each other was fine anyway. We went into our room and was pleasantly surprised!! I was expecting a somewhat old-looking room, with very basic amenities. However, this was more like a 3 1/2 star hotel, with renovations and upgrades throughout. Within a few minutes of settling into our room, the front desk had already called to make sure our room was okay. Really? Never expected such service! We've stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world and have never experienced this simple gesture that makes such a difference!! We mentioned that we would be needing a crib. The front desk said that she would try her best and within 5 minutes, there was a knock on the door with a crib! The rest of our 2 night stay was fabulous and we had no problems except for the lack of parking sometimes at night. Check-out was quick and efficient. Hotel staff (both reception and cleaning staff) were all fabulous. Amazing service, friendly. Very pleasantly surprised!! I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Victoria!!! Props to the general manager. Has changed my view of Travelodge!!! :)
