Stayed 3 nights at the Westin Bear Mountain in February 2012. What an amazing
hotel. With my Platinum Ambassador status I was upgraded to a large suite with 2
bathrooms, full kitchen, fireplace etc. Hotel is in in excellent shape. Amazing
to see the golf course was still green and open in February for play (I didn't
play though). Went over for dinner one night to the Jacks Place which is next to
the hotel. Great place to grab some god bar food and watch a hockey game. Also
did dinner and drinks another night at Masters in the hotel which was great
also. The only knock on the place is having to pay a resort fee on top of the
room rate (mine was discounted as a SPG Platinum member) and the time it takes
to get a taxi (1/2 hour on average) as this resort is a little "out of the way".

Do not waste your money! The rooms are basic with no sitting area or fireplace
while the prices are far from basic. They charge you for parking in the parking
lot which is free to anyone visiting the area, but not if you are staying at the
resort. You are paying a 16 dollar resort fee for a paper, internet and free
parking. We booked in here for a romantic night, but we only had the beds to sit
on so drinking wine on the bed is not what we imagined. The table was dirty and
the floor had not been vacuumed. The prices are expensive for what they offer
and it was disappointing and I will not recommend this place. We usually stat at
Brentwood Bay and we so wish we did that again as it is a beautiful place to
stay. The rooms have a sitting area, fireplace and a view and they do not charge
extra for this. There is no resort fee for parking in an open parking lot. So I
say go there and spend your hard earn money there as you will not be
disappointed. The westin is so not worth it. They said the tub was spa like and
for two..really,two teens maybe. Clearly this is why it is not called the best
western as I think that chain could out do these rooms for a lot less. I could
go on, but I will stop. I never write reviews, but I felt so disappointed about
what they offer and charge that I felt I needed to warn others.

I had a gift of a spa treatment and while I was having my pedicure the young
girls doing the work gossiped with each other rather than paying attention to
their clients. This is a constant problem with checkout girls at the
supermarkets but I did not expect it at an expensive spa.
My recommendation to the hotel would be to give training in manners and speech
to the staff.
and tell them to stop saying `grab`! It is rude and unseemly.

Christmas is a slow time of year and this past one was no exception. Secondary
hotel, Westin Fairways, offers accommodation for pets, which is where our room
originally was in. We asked for an upgrade and got a one bedroom suite in the
main hotel overlooking the entrance. Easily 700 sq ft, our room featured two
bathrooms, a deep soaker tub, separate shower with two shower heads, pillow top
king bed with a mattress that felt like sleeping on a cloud. Fireplace
(electric), full kitchen, pull out couch with queen size mattress, walk out huge
covered deck that wrapped around to the bedroom. Two flat panel 42" TVs (living
room and bedroom), two very large walk in closets, and granite floors in main
hallway. Wow factor is huge for the room.
Hotel restaurant was pricey but really good food. Our food credit was eaten all
up at breakfast but it was fantastic. View of the valley was a nice touch. Other
amenities included a pool and hottub and fitness centre that you had to go
outside to access so we didn't use those.
There is no covered or underground parking. Valet is available but we didn't use
it. Short walk from parking to hotel.

The big down side is that a resort fee is charged to your room, $15 per day.
Yikes. More hotels charge this. We would stay again but only if we got the same
on line deal with the credit. Regular price is way over the top.
Golf course is a very hard course to play. It's built purposely to be scenic but
very difficult to play well on. Bring lots of balls. GPS satellite mapping
system in the golf carts is very cool. As is the preorder food system as you
approach hole #9. |
