Hotel Review of the Embassy Inn Victoria BC
14 September 2011
For our first ever trip to Victoria BC, We were lucky enough to snag a
last-minute room at the Embassy Inn for Labor Day weekend. It wasn't our first
choice, but it was the best choice for the price on a busy weekend. We were
pleasantly surprised. The room is nothing special or huge, but it was roomy
enough for 2 adults and was ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE! Probably the cleanest hotel
room I have ever seen. The location couldn't be beat for those who want to do
Victoria on foot. We were in the tower and the balcony was a nice extra. It
wasn't a great view, but the weather was so pleasant that we were able to have
the windows open all night for fresh air. The breakfast is a bit spendy if you
are on a budget, but its worth it not to have to search for something to get you
started in the mornings. The staff was very friendly and even held our luggage
for us on the day we checked out as we were taking a later ferry back home.
There is an outdoor pool that looked fairly nice, but we did not have time to
enjoy it this trip. We will definitely stay there again.

This property was easy to get too once we got off the ferry. It is within
walking distance of most of the attractions and shopping. The room was clean and
comfortable. Breakfast was not included, and was a bit pricey, but was very
good. We had a room on the side with a large parking lot and farmers market. Not
a great view, but very quiet.

For $110 we got a great room with complete eat in kitchen, two queen beds (a bit
on the firm side). There was a second door opening to the flowered courtyard
leading to the outdoor pool that had an 8' deep end! The hotel is was clean and
well kept if not brand new in a wonderful location just steps from the ferry
terminal and across from the beautiful parliament building. Staff was friendly -
allowed us to store our bags in a secure closet for hours until it was time to
check in, and for hours after checkout until it was time for the ferry to leave.

Finding a hotel offering a reasonable price in Victoria isn't that easy. The
Embassy seems to be one that does!
Booked there very shortly (just some hours before staying), we got a room in the
new building on the high floor.
The room has been very well equipped which has been the building, too.
Staff isn't that nice and could do better in some cases.
Room Tip: Make sure you get a room in the new building (as they always seem to
offer first the ones in the old "motel"-style building)

Negatives: I booked the Embassy Inn online through Expedia, and when we got
there found out that the pictures that were posted online were misleading. We
stayed in a run-down looking motel in a completely separate building! The beds
were hard, the bathroom was tiny, there is no A/C, the TV was about 15 years
old, and the wireless internet was very spotty. The walls are paper thin, so
bring earplugs if you want to get some sleep.
Positives: There was a little kitchen area complete with stovetop, fridge,
microwave which was nice. There's a charming little courtyard next to the pool
where we sat and drank wine in the evenings. We also discovered that the 3rd
floor had a patio where you can see part of the harbor and the side of the
Parliament building. Although the Embassy Inn is in desperate need of
renovation, the location cannot be beat. It's right next to the Parliament
building, and we were able to walk to the B.C. Museum, the Empress, and
Fisherman's Wharf.
Overall, the price we paid for the room was not worth the money because there
are nicer hotels which we could have gotten for less. However, we booked only a
week before the trip so it was the only hotel available within walking distance
to everything.
