This hotel is right on the waterfront in downtown Victoria and accordingly has
stunning views of the harbor, if you choose to book a room facing in that
direction. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are spacious and
well-appointed, with a complete kitchen if you’re in the mood to cook for
yourself.
Our room - or more accurately, suite - was on the ground floor and looked out
directly over the harbor and a sea-plane terminal where Kenmore air flights
provided some splendid views of sea-plane aeronautics. The bed was outstanding
and we slept very well, in spite of open windows and occasional outbreaks of
hysteria among the seagulls. The location is very convenient for local
restaurants and the Empress; but be aware that almost all local restaurants
close promptly at 9 p.m. in a fit of stuffy provincialism that is highly
annoying.
The only negative aspect to the Victoria Regina was the appalling wi-fi
connection, which worked adequately for perhaps 10% of the time, suffering
numerous broken connections (each of which required a log-in to re-establish)
and “limited or no connectivity” in spite of a good signal strength. This was
not an issue with our computer; and our smartphone never achieved a wi-fi
connection at all. The lass at the front desk loaned us a modem, which alas did
not help much. Consequently a dutiful ten-minute check of our firm’s email while
we were on holiday devolved into a multiple-hour ordeal each day, which we did
not appreciate. On the plus side, the wi-fi was free, which was a welcome break
from the “the more you pay the less you get” mentality among good hotels, but
nevertheless, it should have been worth more than we paid for it. If you need
reliable wi-fi, definitely check with the hotel regarding its status before
booking.
Room Tip: Harbor-side if possible; ground floor if you don't mind the seagull
cries!

We booked a two bedroom suite with a view on the marina. The suite was nothing
short of perfect, with astonishing views, two huge bedrooms with huge beds (with
very comfortable mattresses and pillows) and both rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
There was also a very comfortable living room and a kitchen with all necessary
appliances, and everything was spotlessly clean. To top it off, parking was
included in the price (which is rare with other Victoria hotels, where parking
is about $20 per night extra) and a very nice continental breakfast was
included. The reception staff were all very kind and accommodating, and even
willing to give us a discounted night when we asked about extending our stay.
I can't imagine any other location having more beautiful views, we really lucked
out and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Small tip: If you want to try one of the best seafood restaurants nearby,
Nautical Nellie's is highly recommended, but make sure you reserve! The
reception staff told us to go there but even on a Sunday evening, there was a 2
hour wait! We went to the Keg instead, which had fantastic steaks and an
excellent kids' menu too.
Room Tip: Definitely go for the rooms with a view on the marina, but be ready
for a bit of noise when the sea planes take off or the ships come in. It wasn't
so bad though, definitely didn't disturb our great night's sleep!Guest Reviews of the Victoria Regent Hotel

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. My husband and I went for a four day weekend
to Victoria. The location is great, right in the heart of downtown harbour area,
within walking distance of everything, and the staff were awesome.

We stayed three nights at the Victoria Regent Hotel over Labor Day weekend. The
hotel has an excellent location; nice, large well-appointed rooms; parking is
included; as is breakfast. The hotel is located on the Inner Harbour; close to
shopping and other attractions; and is a great value. We opted for a room facing
the street as we live on the ocean. The rooms have balconies, and it is so
peaceful to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine in the evenings. The staff
is superb - from the front desk staff to the housekeeping staff. I highly
recommend the Victoria Regent Hotel. It's almost like Victoria's little secret. |
