Hotel review of the Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites

This place is just excellent. Lovely, bright, cheerful
lobby. Genuinely smiling reception. Suite is great, 2
TV's. Some suites have kitchenettes. Some have great
views.
Location can not be better, 5 minutes walk to the harbor.
5 -10 minutes walk to all kinds of restaurants. Sam's
Deli, around the corner for huge shrimp sandwiches. Bon
Rouge, go there on Wednesdays, when excellent wines are
half price.
The hotel is one of the best finds all around. Book
early for lower prices and availability.
The only shortcoming, one front desk man was not too
enthusiastic about late checkout.

I had the opportunity to take my Mom down to Victoria
for the weekend, and I am so glad that we chose to stay
at the Chateau Victoria. First off I should say that I
work in a lovely hotel on Vancouver Island, and so I
tend to be a little more observant of all things...
cleanliness, amenities, maintenance, friendliness
etc....and I can't think of one thing that would need to
be changed. WE were treated wonderfully for the entire
weekend. Every member of the staff that we met was
professional, cheerful and extremely helpful. Our room
was lovely... especially all of the wonderful pillows
and luxurious duvet covers. The restaurant on the 18th
floor was definately worth staying in for... there are
so many choices of fine food in Victoria... and again I
was so happy we decided to have dinner on Saturday night
in Vista 18... the tapas was fantastic and their drink
selection was great, they have their own secret recipes
for many tasty cocktails. The food is very reasonably
priced, the view is INCREDIBLE, and it was so nice not
to have to leave the hotel again after hours and hours
of sightseeing at all of the wonderful sights just
outside the hotel. The pool area is very nicely set
up... and it's nice to have a pool deep enough that you
aren't scraping your knees along the bottom. I am sure
I'll think of many other things to say about this great
weekend, however I hope that is helpful for anyone
looking for an affordable classy hotel right in Downtown
Victoria.

It has become a tradition for us to travel to Victoria
on the Easter weekend and we always stay at the Chateau
Victoria. It may not be the fanciest hotel in town but
the location is great for walking to all of the downtown
attractions and the rooms themselves (1 bdrm suite) are
quite comfortable. There were only a couple of small
problems, the room itself was a bit warm although not
uncomfortably so and it took us a while to figure out
the internet connection (we have that problem evey year,
another tradition..lol). My son is already planning a
return trip for us next year.

The lobby is really nice but…
The "suite" was 2 queen beds, table & 2 chairs, huge
dresser holding an old blurry TV, all crammed into the
main area. The "bedroom" was a sitting room with a small
old TV. The layout was weird but, hey, no problem, you
can live with it for a couple of nights.
Well, the positive was the Vista Restaurant was lovely
for dinner, not best (watch the French toast unless you
are a big syrup lover) for breakfast and the lounge was
fun and the food was great. Service in the restaurant
and lounge were great except breakfast at the restaurant
(probably just a fluke). Front desk were polite but very
cool and reserved – no “welcome to our hotel” but
professional none the less.

We loved the Chateau Victoria! It was central to
everything. We walked to the Royal BC Museum, the
Empress Hotel, the convention center, etc. Unsecured
covered parking was fine as the area seemed very safe.
We walked in the evenings and never felt uneasy.
The room included a bedroom area (with a sink and
mini-frig, no closet - though there was one in the
hallway) and a sitting room (with a pull-out bed and
closet). In the particular room we had, when you pulled
out the bed it filled the entire room. The view of the
city was beautiful. Wireless Internet was available
(though a bit slow).
The staff was helpful and cheerful. It was nice to be
greeted with a smile when you returned from a long day!
There was always hot cider available in the lobby (what
a nice touch).
Next door to the hotel is a wonderful Greek restaurant
(try the yummy dolmas and the souvlaki). We also walked
several blocks to Pho Hoa and had Pho (Vietnamese noodle
soup). Which was excellent!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Chateau Victoria for
Valentine's Day. We took the Victoria Clipper up from
Seattle. I think my boyfriend booked the cruise and the
hotel together and got a great deal. There was a van
that picked us up from the boat terminal. We got to the
hotel and it was quite nice inside. We arrived early,
but they had no problem storing out bags. I wasn't too
thrilled with my boyfriend at first though because he
did NOT make a reservation anywhere for dinner!! The
concierge was amazing though! A woman (I should have got
her name) offered to call around to the higher end
restaurants to see if they had any reservations. We made
one in the lobby bar/lounge just in case she didn't have
any luck. Well we got very lucky and the concierge found
us a reservation at Prime. I am so thankful! The food
and service was fantastic!
The rest of the staff was great as well. Any time we had
a question or request, the front desk attendants
pleasantly obliged. The room itself was fairly nice. My
boyfriend had upgraded to the corner suite for not too
much more $$. I think it was worth it. We had a nice
balcony facing the water and a mini kitchen. Everything
was very clean. I thought the bathroom was elegant and I
liked the massaging showerhead.
We were able to get a late check out, but they still had
to hold our bags after, as our boat didn't leave til
6pm. We hit the town that day, lost track of time, and
almost ended up missing the boat! We were literally
running through the streets back to the hotel to get our
bags, 30 minutes past check in time. We called the hotel
on the way back and asked them if they could pull our
bags and load the van so we could just jump in. The
bellman had everything ready to go and got us to the
boat amazingly quick. The concierge even called down to
the Clipper and told them we were on the way, and asked
if they could hold the boat for us.....and they did!!!!
The engines were running and as soon as we stepped on
the boat, it pulled off the dock.
Overall, I had a fantastic time at Chateau Victoria. It
was a great, easy location, very clean, amazingly
friendly staff, and I'm guessing affordable (although my
boyfriend wouldn't divulge the price).

I was there with wife and toddler for a relaxing weekend
and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. Staff
were friendly and pleasant. We had a 1 bedroom suite and
the size was adequate and the we found the room to be
suitably quiet. The hotel wasn't absolutely new, but
overall was in good condition. It was within walking
distance to Victoria Harbour and the surrounding
attractions which was nice. One issue we had was the
bathroom sink would drain really slowly and we mentioned
this to the cleaning staff, but it was not addressed
during our stay there. However, for the price, I would
certainly consider staying there again in the future.

Enjoyed a two night stay at this very pleasant Hotel,
ideally situated being just a five minutes stroll down a
gentle hill to the harbour, shops and restaurants.
Arriving by bus via the ferry from Vancouver mainland,
could not have been easier and the hotel is just up the
road within easy walking distance from the bus terminus.
The hotel room was a spacious air conditioned one
bedroom suite, with two huge king size beds which
despite being criticised by a previous reviewer we found
to be quite comfortable. In the main area was a small
counter top incorporating a basin with fridge
underneath, coffee and tea making facilities. On the
other side of the room was a desk top with phone,
writing pads etc, and easy chairs in the corners. The
windows opening onto a balcony. The bathroom was
excellent with a good controllable shower.
Needless to say the room and hotel in general was
spotlessly clean and the staff were very courteous,
friendly and helpful.
Breakfast in the restaurant was good and at a very
reasonable price.
At the time of our stay, it has to said, there was some
long term construction work going on behind the Hotel
but this didn’t cause any problems. If I were to go back
to Victoria I wouldn’t hesitate to use this very
pleasant hotel again.

My wife and I stayed five nights for a conference trip,
in a one bedroom suite. The facilities were great, just
what we wanted -- small but fully supplied kitchen,
comfortable furniture and layout, and (with the windows
closed) quiet even though it is in the center of the
city. Convenient walking distance to a couple of small
food markets too, in addition to all the major tourist
attractions downtown. Nice cafe on the ground floor and
great view from the restaurant at the top. We'd stay
there again. The only problem was the high-speed
wireless, which was almost useless -- good only for
reading email but no serious work. It didn't seem set up
to handle any kind of load, which meant that it often
slowed down to a crawl.

While visiting the northwest my wife and I spent a night
in one of the penthouse suites. We couldn't have asked
for more. Centrally located for for us to enjoy
shopping, dining and sight seeing. Great views,
wonderful breeze, soft white bathrobes and a very nice
room service breakfast had us asking ourselves if we
should change our plans and stay another day. That's
what the Chateau Victoria and the city gave us in our
short visit.
