Check-in very fast. Very friendly, courteous and helpful front desk. Upgraded to a nicer room, gratis. A bargain compared to other motels/hotels in the area. Parking adjacent to the hotel was only $10. All in all a clean, tidy, staff very helpful, excellent location - and at an excellent price. Highly recommended, next time I go to Victoria I’m staying at the Dalton. I’ll return to this hotel.

Have stayed in Victoria many times and nothing beats this hotel for the value. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to be central downtown with no need for a car. Continental Breakfast was included. Clean, staff were great & informative. $ for $ best value in Victoria area. Ask at front desk for map and tours around city

We've stayed at the Dalton before, mainly because of it's location. The rooms are a bit of a crap shoot as the building is undergoing renovations and is quite old (est. 1876?). Your choices are the rooms facing an inner courtyard that are generally smaller and a little dark. Your other option is a street side room facing out on either Yates or Blanshard St. If possible avoid the Yates St. rooms especially on the weekend when the pub (and pub goers) can be quite loud well into the morning (still going until 3:00 a.m.) - if you're in the pub, no worries!

The rooms and sheets were clean (some dust) but seemed to be furnished with garage sale/yard sale distressed "antique" furniture. Sort of went with the age of the hotel but the ultimate feeling was of a hotel trying to look upscale with "retro" furnishing. Rooms were tastefully painted but definitely showing the age of the building. Hot water issues (already mentioned in other reviews) cleared up in the morning when the taps were run for 10 minutes or so. Note that the shower lever fell off when attempting to have a shower.

Parking is an issue - there are a few stalls and an extra charge of $10/day. Overflow parking is a block or so away.

Some positives - location, location, location. Ideal for walking to the downtown shops, movie theatres across the street, opera house minutes away. Continental breakfast is pretty good, waffles, fruit, bagels, muffins, cereal, organic loose leaf tea, coffee, etc. The front desk staff were excellent and very helpful. We were traveling with a baby and a "crib" (playard) was provided at no cost.

Note that there is an "islander" rate which will drop your nightly stay to $78 if you can produce an ad generally found in community newspapers up-island. I'll probably try one of the other hotels with similar "islander" rates next time I'm in Victoria or go with a courtyard room.

A good base for a trip to Victoria, centrally located. The room we booked was quite nice but the heating could not be turned down ( it felt like a tropical greenhouse) so we were moved to the suite next door.

Once again the room was perfectly adequate but it took eleven minutes of continuously running the hot water tap to get hot water for a bath. Reception told us "it is an old building and takes a while".

Coming from England where many buildings are much older and seem to cope with hot water on tap we felt this was a tad odd .

Overall not a bad place though it could be vastly improved with sorting out certain maintenance issues.

Service at reception was friendly and helpful and breakfast was more than adequate.
All in all a reasonable base and with parking next to the hotel at an extra $10 a night, quite convenient ( though free disabled parking might be a nice gesture for those of us who do not have the option of travelling without our cars).

We stayed here for 2 nights in August after catching the ferry from Vancouver.

The hotel is in an excellent location, within easy walking distance of the shopping areas and the harbour. Parking is also available near the hotel for $10 per day.

The rooms are quite small, but perfectly adequate and well presented.

Breakfast was included in the price of the room and there was a wide choice on offer including the opportunity to make your own waffles!

The hotel has a good central location and is good for a night.
The rooms have been partly renewed. The hotel is an old building and so are the rooms. All the sights in Victoria are reachable by foot. The breakfast is above average for a continental breakfast.

Stayed 2 nights, enjoyed the proximity to the downtown core - walked everywhere - no need to rent a car to see the best of Victoria. Room was dated, somewhat shabby, but clean, and this, I expect, is what you get for such a decent rate to stay in the downtown area. Forgotten items in the closet were found by the housekeeping staff, and I was able to very easily track them down to get them back - a miraculous achievement in my books.
