Have stayed here several times because of the extremely convenient
location for downtown. The staff are always helpful and it is clean. The
rooms are comfortable but I would advise not booking one with a sofa bed
as these only have thin mattresses. The beds are comfortable, though,
and the bathrooms clean. Parking is only $4/day and any requests for
extra towels and pillows were rapidly answered. Many rooms have great
views of the Parliament buildings which are very pretty at night.

When my husband and I were looking for a place to stay while we were in
Victoria for a week, we had in mind a place that was not right downtown,
quiet, and romantic. It was hard to choose because you never know if
what is being represented on the internet is going to be what you get.
We were more than pleasantly surprised when we arrived to our junior
suite. There were no loud, obnoxious neighbors partying all night long
or intrusive staff. It was quiet and respectful in demeanor. Everyone
was very nice to us. The Inn looked more like a chic, graduated castle
than an Inn. WE absolutely loved this place and highly recommend staying
here; it is beautiful! Our bed and linen was top rate and more
importantly comfy with a capital C. The Inn has easy directions to get
to it and only 5 minutes to downtown. There are too many other
attractive qualities to post here.

We were pleasantly surprised when arriving to the hotel. It’s
architecture and history is quite impressive. The room, including the
bath, were very nice. The service and cleanliness was top notch.
Breakfast was very good with freshly baked goods from the restaurant.
Also, breakfast was a time for guest interaction because of the cozy
room where it is served. The Rosemeade restaurant is great dinning
experience. Although, located away from the downtown area it is an easy
drive, a car is a must, to all attractions Victoria has to offer. My
wife and I would without question stay there again.

If you want to eat at the restaurant in the hotel, make sure to make
reservations ahead of time. This is the one thing we were disappointed
about. We didn’t know we had to make a reservation, so by the time we
got there it was already booked. We had to leave the hotel in order to
get something to eat. We really enjoyed everything else about the hotel.

The Hotel is very beautiful and grand and is only like a 5 min drive
from all the wonderful shops and sights downtown. Our room was in the
"carriage house" building. . .we didnt know what room we were going to
get when booking and was suprised when we got quite a large room for the
very good price- it had two double beds far apart and a sofa with a tv.
. .quite a nice room and large bathroom but the maid hadnt done a great
job of cleaning- we found a chip and earplug on the bed frame and a
grape behind the door!! First night was fine but second morning we could
hear alot of noise of people just moving around on the floor above and
below us. Other than that a very nice hotel, with a good price and good
distance to downtown.

There is of course something very special about having such a beautiful
spot all to yourself. However you still want to be made to feel like it
is like any other time. Shorter reception hours is absolutely fine.
However in-room amenities and attention should not be sacrificed. they
were very accommodating, placing us into a beautiful spot within the
manor. Yard maintenance in the fall was as to be expected, and was still
very pretty, but definitely recommend higher season travel. However if
you’re looking for some rustic, romantic privacy, definitely book here!

During high season for the low price offered this is probably the best
deal you can make. I very liked the combination of modern furniture in
the old building, the room was spacious and clean and had a wonderful
balcony.
The breakfast is modest and there is no elevator. But staff is very
friendly and it's overall a good atmosphere. But it's hard to find,
especially during nighttime. And you need a car from the city!

We booked a night at the English Inn after looking at the rather
inviting pictures on their website, hoping to stay at a charming
boutique-style hotel in a traditional setting.
We were disappointed for several reasons:
- When you arrive after 9PM (which you will, if you use the last ferry
from Port Angeles) - you will have to pick up your key at the lobby, and
then find your room in complete darkness. We didn't expect our camping
light to come in handy in Victoria.
- While some of the garden looks great , most of the garden looks sad
and under construction.
The view into dumpsites and neighboring properties is everything but
nice.
- While the lobby and some rooms may look great , most of the hotel is
in need of renewal and looks very tired.
- In the morning, you will be greeted by a stingy breakfast consisting
of supermarket pastries and cereals. And there's only 2 armchairs in the
breakfast area. We had breakfast in town, even though this was included.
Also note that the hotel is located in a residential area. No signage
available. Unless you have a GPS, it will be difficult to find in the
darkness.
Summary: The English Inn has great potential, but chooses to ignore it.
It could be a very charming non-mainstream hotel in a quiet setting and
in traditional design. At this point, however, a $50 motel room on the
road (and its service) is what you should expect when you book a room at
The English Inn. Accordingly, any rate above $75 is unjustified.

Although these buildings appear somewhat Victorian on the outside, the
main building, at least, has been remodeled into a very modern dining
facility, lobby and bar on the main floor. Our room was appointed with
modern furniture as well. There are extensive English gardens, but they
were not well kept so you found yourself trying to imagine being in a
Victorian setting. As to service, the staff met the basic requirements,
but did little to go out of their way to make our stay particularly
enjoyable. Since we'd chosen this setting for our 25th wedding
anniversary, that was a disappointment. Overall, Vancouver Island is a
wonderful destination, however.

This Victorian mansion and village in the heart of Greater Victoria,
seems out of place in the residential areas surrounding it. Springing
from the amber, burnt umber and crimson leaves strewn on the ground, the
English Inn is a gem waiting to be unearthed.
Consisting of the main manor house and several smaller “cottages”, the
English Inn is laid out like a village in England, and is not at all
lacking in quaintness and charm.
We visited in the first week of October, and while the weather was damp
and windy, the extended summer turned the gardens into a colorful
explosion and left the flowers in bloom long after summer had ended.
As I walked through the gardens and rounded the corner, I walked down
the steps to the gazebo. Flashing in my mind was the dream wedding I
could have with my ivory train trailing behind me and the gorgeous
fountains springing around me. The location is ideal for a small wedding
and numerous songbirds would happily serenade any bride as she walked
down the grassy aisle.
The rooms are fashioned in the old English style, and are perfectly
appointed for a multi-night stay. Quilted bed spreads, antique
furnishings and painted landscapes of Vancouver Island adorn each room
and make you feel instantly at home. Many have picturesque views of the
gardens and the replica of Anne Hathaway’s House on the adjoining lot.
As you walk along the paths you can even stick your hands and head
through a replica “stocks”, making for some funny and memorable stories.
