"What Guests are saying about Haterleigh Heritage Inn Victoria "

The Haterleigh Heritage Inn is a lovely B&B in a quiet street but close - walking distance - to the center of Victoria and all it's touristic attractions.
The room was spacious, the bathroom fantastic and the beds very comfortable.
But the breakfast was superb!! What a pity we did not have time to stay longer than one night! Thank you very much, Paul and Elizabeth!

We stayed at the Haterleigh in Mid Feb 2009 and had the best experience! From the great location (minutes from the city center), to the luxurious accommodations, everything was perfect. Paul and Elizabeth are outstanding hosts, and gave us the best advice about things to see and do, and where to eat. Having said that, we did not need lunch after Elizabeth's amazing breakfasts, not your everyday fare here!
It was also nice to enjoy chatting with the other guests during the afternoon hospitality hour.
We will return!

I Cant say enough good things about this B&B. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and at home. Wonderful decor through out the house. Breakfast was also an experience. Paul, the owner will take great delight in concocting any
breakfast wish you have.. All was first rate.. We would with a doubt reccomend the Haterleigh to anybody who has great taste and likes to feel welcome and at home in their surroundings. Thanks to Paul and Elizabeth (the owners, cleaners and cook) our stay was just great

We stayed for several days in the Kingston suite. I didn't pick this place, our companion couple did, and it isn't exactly to my taste (a little stuffy looking even on the website and expensive).

The suite itself was great, but had one gaping flaw -- no doors or real barrier between the two bedrooms. In fact the way the furniture with mirrors are arranged leaves no way of dressing discretely in one bedroom. It was a little too close for comfort for us.

Breakfast was delicious every day and the hosts were fine, though I never really felt welcome there. They have a lot of rules and on occasion I was chastised like a child. In addition there was an odd feeling of being 'sold' on Paul's pet recommendations. He mentioned several of these (whale watching package, certain bus tour, and one specific expensive restaurant) repeatedly to us and the other people while we were there. I guess I would have expected other recommendations as well in a city with this much to offer, especially when no one seemed interested in what he was pushing.

The location is wonderfully convenient to the main sights of Victoria. The house itself is beautiful. The beds were comfortable. But ultimately we felt unwelcome by the lack of warmth in the hosting overall and for the price I'd probably just stay somewhere else next time.

Beautiful and super-clean home. Not a warm and friendly place at all. Lots of rules about no shoes, specific times you are allowed in the common areas of the home, etc. Breakfast was good but not overabundant. Missing the "extras" such as no complimentary water or soda. It was available, but for an extra charge on an "honour" jar with a reminder not to "cheat" and take it without paying. Not that we drink soda, but found that to be offensive. At $300 per night, seriously doubt that the clientele would try to rip off a $2 drink. Also, wonderful soap was in the room the first night but not replenished for the second night and that felt rather cheap. Not a horrible experience, but no warm and fuzzy and would definitely seek other accommodations in this beautiful town on a future visit.

We made our vacation this year a trip to Canada and decided to focus our stays in B&B's so as to get a better feel for the areas that we visited. However, our experience here was very unexpectedly unpleasant.

First--when we called while en route to confirm our stay, we found that we weren't expected until a day later. Luckily, we were able to get into a room as needed.

Second--our next unpleasant contact came when we actually checked in. Our "host" greeted us with a list of "Don't do ..." rules. We felt more like we were being scolded than being greeted.

Third--we did receive a reasonable recommendation for a place to go for dinner. The clinker here was that in our room was a prominently displayed plaque asking for a tip!!!!! Tips come in response to service, not in response to expectation! Our accommodations were about average, and the breakfast the next morning served family style -- about to be expected.

Our "host" made a remark at breakfast in the morning about how long he had been in the business and how he was thinking of retiring. I highly recommend that he does so. Then, he no longer tarnishes the image that B&B's offer hospitable accommodations so might be preferable to motels, etc.

This was our third stay at the Haterleigh in the last 10 years. Paul is an amazing host, fantastic chef with original British wit and the wisdom of an entrenched community expert. Even if you're only passing through Victoria, your stay as his B&B will be a highlight of your journey and a reason to return.
We have moved our vacations to Victoria around the calendar in order to ensure we can stay at the Haterleigh. We've stayed in three different rooms and cannot decide which one is better than the others. Quiet, yet close enough to walk everywhere, this B&B cannot be situated any better to public trans, ferries, and all that the city has to offer.
One of the greatest features is the group breakfast wherein you will meet your fellow guests. It's difficult to spend less than an hour over coffee and conversation long after you've finished a gourmet breakfast.
If there was such a thing as a sixth star, the Haterleigh would easily qualify.

Paul and Elizabeth are wonderful hosts. We spent several glorious days at the Haterleigh Heritage Inn in Victoria B.C. This B&B is immaculately kept and beautifully appointed. I loved the stained glass windows and beautiful moulding. In addition the Jacuzzi tub in our room kept us in relax mode for the entire visit!!! Paul and Elizabeth gave extraordinary attention to the breakfasts we enjoyed each morning. My husband has dietary concerns which were looked after with the utmost of care.
Thank you again Paul and Elizabeth for a wonderful stay.
