Hotel Review of the Laurel Point Inn Victoria

We booked through Hotwire and soon discovered after research that our
deal was for the older wing. We paid 68 CDN so when we arrived at the
hotel, we decided to upgrade for 40 CDN. This was a little more than I
wanted to pay as we were promised a four star room through hotwire, and
the older wing is definitely not.
As other reviewers have noted, the rooms in the new Erickson wing are
fabulous. The view is great and overlooks a Japanese garden, the water
and part of Victoria.
The only drawback is that the Aura restaurant is the only one in the
hotel and it is ridiculously pricey. A simple breakfast is $16 and even
more if brought to the room. The hotel itself is about a 10 minute walk
to the Empress Hotel so we self-catered our breakfast.
It really is a great place to come home to after walking around all day.
The huge tub and showers are divine. We stayed 4 days and loved every
minute of it. The mattresses are about 2 feet thick and very
comfortable. The easy to use thermostat offers heat or cool and is very
efficient. I think for the money we had a great place with lots of
unique features.

WOW... OMG WOW! We have been staying in room #650 for the past 15 years.
This is the first time since they renovated it. It is literally the best
room in all of Victoria. You will never want to leave! If your looking
for a piece of heaven this is it. The room has everything. 2 floors, 2
balconies, 2 bathrooms, 2 tv's, a dining room, a living room, OMG the
huge marble bathroom floor to ceiling with a Jacuzzi tub for 2 and
Molten Brown products to satisfy any woman! There is even a wine frig to
keep your wine at perfect temperature after a day of wine tasting on the
island. The bed is super luxurious and for the ultimate in romance, the
180 degree view of the Harbor from your bed, yes from your bed. With
special shades so you can see out but no one can see in. Finally, the
outdoor patio. It is too big to call a balcony since you basically own
the entire top level of the hotel. When in Victoria there is no place
else to stay! You have to see it to believe it....

We stayed here after originally booking with the Oswego and then finding
out on arrival there that the restaurant was under construction and
there was no room service, bar, etc. We had stayed at Laurel Point
several years before and decided to try it again and we were NOT
disappointed. We had a new studio room in the Erickson part of the hotel
and it was wonderful! The view was amazing, the room tastefully done,
and the service was great! It was in a much nicer location than the
Oswego and we had a view of the Japanese gardens and the Harbor AND LESS
EXPENSIVE. I highly recommend this place, but be sure to ask for a
renovated room.

I have stayed at Laurel Point about 10 years ago and absolutely loved
it. This time we went there for our wedding anniversary and our
daughter's birthday. We received a bag of sweets with a card from
manager for our anniversary when we checked in to our room (when we made
reservations thru the internet, we wrote about the purpose of our trip
in the comment column). The room (laurel wing) was very clean and we had
a breathtaking view of the inner harbour especially during the sunset
and sunrise . Hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly, and the
location is great. You are free from the noise of downtown, but are
still within walking distance. You will also enjoy walking around the
hotel as well as towards the pier where floating restaurants are. We had
Sunday brunch at Aura restaurant and it was fabulous. We loved
everything about this hotel, except for one thing. They are in the
process of getting rid of the Jacuzzi (cemented already) in the indoor
pool area. Our little girl loves to play in the swimming pool, and we
took turns going into the pool which was rather cold. It would be really
nice if they had Jacuzzi.

I had to take the time to write about the Inn at Laurel Point. I am
rarely impressed by hotels, but this one had it going on. From the
moment I walked in I was greeted by smiles and a warm welcome by 3 hotel
staff. The girl who checked me in was fun to chat with and actually
seemed genuinely interested in making sure I had a great stay. I had
paid for the room on Expedia, so I expected to be put into an obstructed
view room, but I was not. It was a beautiful room, with a beautiful
view. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at home - the linens were
crisp and new, the pillows perfect. They used Aveda products in the
washroom, which were awesome (I rarely use hotel bathroom products - but
these were worth trying!). The bathroom was very clean - and once again,
I'm picky.
This was a business trip, so I didn't spend much time at the hotel - but
I look forward to going back and having some holiday time there. Great
staff - great view, great hotel.

I stayed in a harbour view room in the older laurel wing. The view was
incredible and the staff were very nice. The wing is older and the rooms
are by no means luxurious or modern -- but they are clean, a good size,
and it appears that the bathroom has been updated. It was a little noisy
in so far as you could hear people talking in the hallway, and showers
in other rooms. However, the room was fine... nothing great -- but would
be a good choice if in Victoria and want to be in a good location from
which to can walk to almost everywhere.

I love Victoria and travel there quite a bit to visit friends; usually I
stay at the Westin (Bear Mountain) or Fairmont but the Laurel Point is
now at the top of my list for Victoria hotels.
Laurel Point's waterfront location is amazing (slight walk into
downtown) as it allows for 360 degree views of Victoria Harbour. The
service is okay - my reservations have been messed up a time-or-two, but
other than that, everything has been great.
I only stay at Laurel Point when I can get a deal on a Studio Suite in
the newer "Erickson Wing" of the hotel - the lobby and older wing of
this property are pretty drab. The Erickson Wing rooms are well worth
the extra $ - they're newly renovated with LCD TVs, patios, comfy beds
and marble bathrooms.
Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at Inn at Laurel Point for two nights in November. We had a
king size bed in the North Wing, which was the non-renovated section.
The room itself was clean with a small balcony that fitted one chair.
The room had leather furniture, a flat screen TV, a coffee maker and a
mini fridge. The view of the harbor was beautiful especially with the
sun was shining and the orange maple leaves beginning to fall .
We ate dinner at the Aura Restaurant which is located at the hotel. The
service and food was good but a little pricey.
The pool was a good size but the whirlpool was out of service.
The distance from the hotel to the Legislature Building is approximately
a five minute walk. Victoria is a beautiful city.

I booked my room at the last minute . When looking at the hotels , it
mentioned that the hotel was rated four stars and entirely non-smoking
so I was able to narrow down the possibility of what hotel it would be
before purchasing.
When checking in, I asked for a room in the new wing since past reviews
made the old rooms sound horrible. The upgrade fee was $85/night so I
passed. As I was walking to my "old" room I was expecting the worst but
was pleasantly surprised. All the furniture was in excellent shape with
the exception of the TV - it worked fine but was probably from the early
90's. The bed was very comfortable, the towels were new, big and
plentiful and I could also get a strong WiFi signal which I thought was
only available in the new wing (I was in room 344, which was only a few
rooms away from the new wing, so I am assuming the location helped).
I have a couple of complaints, but they could easily be improved upon.
First off, I had my shoes shined by the bellman the night before my
meeting and they charged me $10.50 (plus tip) which is a complete
ripoff, especially since I am assuming the bellman didn't receive a dime
of this fee and a tin of shoe polish, which will shine about 500 pairs
of shoes, costs around $3.00. Second, the balconies in the old wing are
tiny, and they each have a patio chair awkwardly stuffed into them. The
size of the balcony wouldn't be an issue for a couple to stand, take in
the views, get some fresh air, etc but when they stuff that chair in,
there is barely room for one adult to stand out there! Finally, while
this is more of a personal preference, I wasn't crazy about the location
of the hotel. It was an easy ten minute walk to downtown but when I
travel I prefer to be right in the middle of the action.
All in all, it was a great stay and I would recommend this hotel to
anyone.

Me and my wife stayed at Laurel Point for a 3 day weekend. We rode the
ferry from Seattle to Victoria. We stayed in one of the studio suites,
it was very nice, a huge bathroom, great view of the harbor from our
private balcony. The hotel was very clean, parts of it are older 70's
decor but the other half is a modern decor. The restaurant was
affordable and had good food. They also had in room spa services which
were nice. The hotel is in a great location it is a 5 minute or less
walk from where the ferries dock. The parliament building and all the
other attractions are only 3 or 4 blocks away. I would recommend this
hotel based on the value and good service.
