Review of the Red Lion Inn Victoria

We frequent the Red Lion Inn and Suites numerous times a year when we visit Victoria both on business and pleasure. The hotel has been nicely renovated, with the suites providing extra comfort and space, marble bathrooms, leather sofas, flat screen t.v.’s. All suites are nicely appointed and extremely good value and always quiet. The kitchenette is always a nice addition when one is working long hours on business as well as free easy access complimentary parking. The hotel is conveniently located close to the downtown core. The front desk staff is helpful with directions and our room has always been ready upon arrival. We always recommend Red Lion Inn and Suites to our friends, family and business associates, it’s our number one pick!

We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the 4th floor, so room was very quiet. Staff at desk were very friendly and helpful. We were here for 4 days and took advantage of the laundry room . The kitchenette was a nice feature, we went to a nearby grocer and made a few meals in. Victoria was a great city to visit. Lots of sightseeing. Only con of the hotel was it did not have wireless internet. The hotel is located right next to the Galloping Goose trail, which we took advantage of every morning we took a nice walk , while waiting on our teenage sons to get ready for the day.

We stayed at this hotel for one night while vacationing in British Columbia with aunt/uncle. My first impressions of this hotel was that it was a decent suburban hotel with a beautiful lobby and check-in area. However, once we got our rooms, we noticed that there was insufficient lighting, and some of the furniture seemed to be a bit worn out.

The location of the hotel wasn't that great, either, located about 15 minutes drive from the Victoria city centre (not walking distance, so you must have a car). The best thing about this hotel was the Chinese restaurant in the basement, pretty delicious crispy chicken and other Chinese dishes.

The hotel was super clean and the front desk workers were friendly. Nice area for a hotel. Although there was a bar right at the hotel, it was very quiet! Would definitely recommend.

We had used this hotel in spring and got a pleasant surprise as it was just a good this fall. The staff was great and a big help in finding places we wanted to visit. It was very quiet and nice to have a non-smoking room.
It is close to a shopping centre and some nice restaurants in the area. Is also on a bus line if you want to use buses. It is also located on a walking trail.

I was looking for a place to flop for a couple nights while my son was playing hockey and didn’t want to spend too much money on the room. I was surprised to find a room at this price and doubly surprised that the hotel and room were as good as they were. Bring your bike... hotel is right next to Galloping Goose Trail... great way to explore the area around Victoria!!!

We go to Victoria every year and this time having my aunt and my best friend accompany us on the Valentine’s Day weekend. We always stay Red Lion since the location is the best to the ferry terminal and downtown Victoria. The rooms are clean and the surroundings are quiet (I guess it’s because low season)??? But anyway, we will definitely go to Red Lion again next time.

Fine place, I have been there about 10 times now
Everything was fine. I had to change reservations at the last minute when my daughter’s flight was cancelled. No problems changing the reservation to another date. The rooms were clean. My wife and I liked the flat screen TV. Nice comfortable hotel. A Wal-Mart is just across the street and there’s a Chinese dim sum restaurant in the basement of the hotel which served dim sum and dinner which was nice. Hotel staff were nice and knowledgeable. We enjoy staying there!

The biggest problem with the Red Lion is that rooms are quite small but they have still crammed in all the furniture you might expect in a larger room. Initially for the first night we were given a room with two double beds that was so cramped that cases had to go on one bed and it was difficult to get a wheelchair into the room. If instead they had just put in a single queen bed and a couple of chairs it could have been a very nice room.

For the remaining two nights we were moved to a one bedroom suite which was better but still included useless pieces of furniture with no purpose other to make the room seem smaller.

Staff was friendly and there is a good authentic Chinese restaurant in the same building.

I agree with other reviewers that the Red Lion is good value for the money but nothing fancy. For $65/night it was better than I expected so I gave it 4 stars: clean, nice little desk that's well lit, good water pressure with plenty of hot water, decent bed, friendly front desk in the night and morning, and not noisy. Near downtown and the highway north to Nanaimo. I'd go back.

We made a booking at this hotel becasue we needed a 1 bedroom suite with our baby. The upsides - good sized beds, a nice kitchenette, a cheap on-site laundry, a full-size fridge, a renovated bathroom with a bath, plenty of parking, close to shopping malls, easy access to downtown and free internet in the lobby. The downsides - a little too far out of Victoria, highway noise, crappy restaurants nearby, a large skylight in the living area where our baby slept (and woke her up early), and the on-site BC Liquor store that attracts a lot of undesirables. Given that Victoria hotels are grossly overpriced, this is pretty good value for what you get.
