Review of the Super 8 Hotel Victoria

I wasn’t expecting much from the Super 8 Hotel, given that it was rated
two stars and was the cheapest lodging in Victoria, but I was very
pleasantly surprised by the stay. The staff were courteous, the room was
large and clean, and there was a great diner, restaurant and liquor
store all attached to the building. Only 5 mins from downtown too - I’ll
be making sure to stay here again. Just goes to show that cheap doesn’t
always mean "cheap."

The rooms were small but the continental breakfast was really good I
will go back
I was greeted with a warm welcome. They have the smallest elevator I
have ever seen it barely fit my stroller. The room was small too. I was
disappointed there was no balcony. But overall the service was great and
the breakfast was awesome I will return.

Travelling on a budget, we chose this hotel as offering reasonable
rates, but still being a well-known name. The location was easy to find
from the airport, and was only minutes away from downtown. Large parking
area, pub on site and family restaurants within walking distance. Rooms
were large and clean. Staff were friendly. We were very impressed by the
complimentary ’continental’ breakfast, which was buffet-style and
included muffins, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, tea

Not a prime location for night life or sight seeing but nice, clean and
quiet for the price. Free Continental breakfast was surprisingly good.
Parents - take your kids to the Underwater Sea World (5 minutes from
this hotel) and the Bug Zoo (downtown). They’ll love both. Sea World is
self-guided, although they do have set times for diving displays, etc.
The Bug Zoo is a quided, interactive tour of the bug world, which will
take about an hour.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this hotel. Our room was
clean and spacious. The price was low enough to fit in our budget. The
proximity to downtown was excellent. Additionally, they had just
finished construction on their latest restaurant, bringing the in-house
restaurant total to three. There's a diner open for breakfast and lunch
(they gave us a free breakfast there), a sports bar downstairs open in
the evening (complete with card and pool tables), and now a fancier
restaurant as well. This hotel is a good value for the money. We would
definitely stay there again.

This was a great hotel... we stayed for a week and loved it! Yes the
elevator is small... and it's on a noisey street but the kindness off
the staff totally make up for it...we stayed in a plain Jane room which
looked to be newly renovated and had no issues! Overall a decent hotel
for the budget traveler.

The elevator was smaller than most hotel coat racks. The room a/c unit
ran hard all night, but the heat from the hall and gap below the door
neutralized its cooling affect. I later blocked the gap under the door
with a pillow and towels. That worked well. The room was fine for the
price. It was nice to have the mini fridge, microwave, coffee and
toaster. We rode motorcycles and the desk staff let us park in the
spaces by the front door. That was very nice.

Just returned from a visit to Victoria where we had a couple of 2 double
bed rooms.
Location: The hotel was slightly away from downtown but since I had
taken my car it was easy to get there. It is on Douglas which is busy
but I didn't here the road much inside my room - maybe I was just tired
from the drive and sightseeing.
Room size and amenities: The room was pretty tight with 2 queen beds
leaving small areas to walk around. there was a coffee maker, iron/board
in the room. The room / bathroom were clean and were just what we needed
- a place to rest at night. If you want to spend more time at the hotel
when traveling this is not the one. the breakfast is basic - The staff
were friendly and helpful.

Our family of 4 stayed at this hotel for two nights on our family
vacation. My husband and myself were traveling with our two young
daughters 5 and 6 years old. We were lucky enough to get one of the
remodeled rooms and were pleased with the décor and cleanliness of the
room. The stay included a continental breakfast but only for adults and
not for our children for some reason. We did point this out to the
management that we were paying extra for a room with two queen beds to
accommodate our children, but they said that it was Hotel Policy not to
give a free breakfast to children. We went ahead for our adult only
breakfast and ordered off of the menu for the children and were charged
$9.28 for one small bagel, and two small individual portions of boxed
corn flakes. We felt that the price was extremely high for nothing
special. If you stay here skip the continental breakfast, service was
extremely slow (20 minutes to just get a menu and another 20 to get our
food and the restaurant wasn’t busy), the free breakfast menu has very
limited choices and the food was below average quality. The breakfast
was not at all what we expected because we have stayed at dozens of
Super 8 Hotels across Canada and the US and have always been pleased
with the make-it-yourself all-you-can-eat style continental breakfasts.
The next day we didn't waste our time with the free breakfast and
instead had breakfast at the Mount Royal Bagel Factory – 13 bagels hot
out of the oven for $6.00 and coffee and juice at a nearby coffee shop –
what a treat!!
